We take great pleasure in bringing to light the history of Read’s Corners, better known as Paddy Hill. Learn about: St. Ambrose Church founded in 1829, later renamed Our Mother of Sorrows, and the present brick church that was built in 1860. Also learn about the Irish settlers, Mother of Sorrows cemetery, Paddy Hill School, first built as a frame one room school in 1839 and the Paddy Hill Players, a theatrical group who performed for a quarter century. We’ll explore the precarious plight of the old church, now empty and in need of a tenant or buyer who will tend the beacon on the hill that has served the neighborhood all these years.
